DVLA engages stakeholders ahead of new vehicle licence plate rollout in 2026

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has held a stakeholder engagement session ahead of the implementation of new vehicle licence plates, scheduled to take effect in January 2026.
The meeting, which took place at the DVLA Head Office in Accra, brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from transport unions, law enforcement agencies, and the automotive industry.
It served as a platform for intensive deliberations on the upcoming reform and its expected impact on Ghana’s transport system.
According to the DVLA, the new licence plate system aims to enhance public safety, improve vehicle identification accuracy, and eliminate unroadworthy vehicles from the country’s roads.
Officials described the reform as a major step toward a smarter, safer, and more efficient transport management system.
The initiative forms part of the Authority’s broader efforts to modernise Ghana’s vehicle registration processes through the integration of digital verification tools and data-driven road safety measures.
Stakeholders at the meeting commended the DVLA for its proactive approach and pledged their cooperation to ensure a smooth transition when the new system is implemented in 2026.
