Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor on tour of the facility in Eastern Region

The Director of Agribusiness Development at the Presidency, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, has paid a working visit to Nobi Farms at Sikasu Dortopon near Forifori in the Afram Plains of the Eastern Region.

The visit forms part of efforts to assess large-scale agricultural projects and promote agribusiness development in line with government’s food security agenda.

Nobi Farms, an initiative spearheaded by Kwame Awuah-Darko, has been described as a model for innovative agriculture, particularly in irrigated rice production.

The farm spans over 7,000 acres and is supported by a 23-acre reservoir with a storage capacity of about 1.2 million cubic metres of water, as well as a high-capacity pumping system capable of delivering over 1,500 cubic metres per minute.

The facility also includes a rice mill to support processing.

Officials say the project’s location, surrounded by water bodies, provides a strategic advantage for irrigation and year-round farming.

The farm recently hosted President John Dramani Mahama during a visit to the area, highlighting its growing importance in Ghana’s agricultural transformation drive.

Dr Otokunor commended the vision and commitment behind the project, noting that such initiatives are critical to reshaping Ghana’s agricultural sector and boosting local food production.

The visit underscores ongoing government efforts to support private sector-led investments in agriculture to enhance productivity and create employment opportunities.
