Eastern Regional Minister urges ECG to rebuild public trust

Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has called on Engineer Emmanuel Antwi Addo and the management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at the Tafo branch in the Eastern Region to intensify efforts to restore public confidence in the company.
The Minister made the call during a working visit to the ECG's Customer Service Office at the Koforidua Regional Office, as well as the Akyem Tafo and Somanya district offices.
Miss Adjei Awatey expressed concern over the increasing number of customer complaints and urged ECG officials to resolve such issues within hours rather than days.
She assured management of both her personal support and that of the government to help the company achieve this goal.
In a related development, the Somanya District Manager of ECG, Ing. Tetteh Apan, dismissed allegations that the newly installed smart meters are designed to exploit customers.
These concerns have emerged in the wake of the rollout of smart metres under the Loss Reduction Programme (LRP), which has prompted complaints about high consumption rates.
Ing. Apan clarified that the smart metres are intended to enhance accuracy and operational efficiency, not to overcharge consumers.
Meanwhile, Engineer Emmanuel Antwi Addo of the ECG Tafo Branch acknowledged the ongoing energy challenges in the region.
He noted that ECG is collaborating with key stakeholders in the power sector to find a sustainable solution to the crisis.
He appealed to residents in the Eastern Region to remain patient as the company works around the clock with its partners to restore a stable power supply.
He emphasised that ECG understands and shares in the difficulties being experienced by its customers.
