Former SIC MD refuses to hand over, locks up office and bolts with keys

Business
Ms. Hollistar Duah-Yentumi

Weeks after her replacement, the immediate past Managing Director of SIC Insurance Company Limited, Ms. Hollistar Duah-Yentumi, has refused to hand over to the newly appointed Acting MD, Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng.

Investigations reveal that Ms. Duah-Yentumi has not only declined to hand over but has also locked up the Managing Director’s office and left with the keys, effectively preventing her successor from assuming his new role.

President John Dramani Mahama appointed Mr. Agyenim-Boateng as the Acting Managing Director of SIC Insurance on Friday, January 24, 2025, replacing Ms. Duah-Yentumi, who was appointed under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Further checks indicate that on Thursday, January 30, Mr. Agyenim-Boateng visited the SIC headquarters to officially introduce himself to the management team.

However, Ms. Duah-Yentumi refused to attend the meeting, breaking from the standard practice where outgoing and incoming CEOs and MDs collaborate to ensure a smooth transition.

Disruption to SIC Operations

In addition to her refusal to cooperate, Ms. Duah-Yentumi has failed to submit her handing-over notes, further delaying the transition process. Some SIC staff members have expressed disappointment over her conduct, calling it a major setback for the company.

A concerned staff member, who spoke anonymously, described the situation as unacceptable:
"We are under the Ministry of Finance, and the Minister has officially communicated the appointment of Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng as our new MD. I don’t see why the former MD is refusing to hand over.

She was also appointed by the previous government, and with the change in administration, it is expected that new leadership will take over.

It’s a shame, and she must immediately hand over."

Calls for Immediate Resolution

The delay in the transition is reportedly negatively impacting the company’s operations, as staff members remain in limbo regarding leadership directives.

Many are urging Ms. Duah-Yentumi to comply with the transition process and facilitate a smooth transfer of leadership to Mr. Agyenim-Boateng so he can begin implementing his vision for the state-owned insurance company.

Authorities are yet to take decisive action to resolve the impasse.
