Ghana inaugurates first Compressed Natural Gas facility to boost clean energy transition
Ghana has taken a major step toward cleaner and more affordable energy with the inauguration of the country’s first-ever Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility by Tetracore Gas Ghana Limited.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, who officiated at the inauguration, described the project as a landmark achievement in Ghana’s energy transition agenda.
He said the CNG facility would help reduce the country’s reliance on expensive liquid fuels while providing a more reliable and cost-effective energy source for industries and commercial users.
Dr Jinapor noted that the project aligns with the government’s broader strategy to expand the use of natural gas as a transition fuel, supporting industrial growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability.
“This initiative represents a decisive step toward cleaner, more affordable and reliable energy.
It will significantly reduce dependence on liquid fuels and strengthen Ghana’s energy security,” he said.
He commended Tetracore Gas Ghana Limited for its vision and commitment to investing in innovative energy solutions, adding that the private sector has a critical role to play in advancing Ghana’s energy infrastructure.
The Energy Minister reaffirmed the government’s support for expanding gas supply and strengthening energy infrastructure in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s Gas-to-Power Policy, which seeks to maximise the country’s gas resources to drive economic growth and ensure stable power generation.
The inauguration of the CNG facility is expected to open new opportunities for cleaner fuel use across key sectors, positioning Ghana as a leader in natural gas utilisation within the sub-region.
