An explosion may have triggered stampede at sold-out ShattaFest UK 2026 – Concertgoer
A male concertgoer at ShattaFest UK 2026 has claimed that a gas explosion may have triggered the stampede that led to the cancellation of the event by police.
Speaking to blogger GH Hyper as attendees left the venue, the patron alleged that the explosion caused organisers to temporarily halt admission into the event, leading to a build-up of people at the entrance.
According to him, when the gates were eventually reopened, the crowd surged forward, resulting in the stampede.
"At the time of the gas explosion, they had to hold on with letting people into the venue. During that period, the numbers at the gate become big," he said.
"When they finally opened the gate, the gate was chocked with people."
He criticised the handling of the situation, saying it could have been better managed.
"They've ruined the programme," he said.
He noted that Shatta Wale's concert had sold out, contributing to the large crowd at the entrance.
"You know Shatta Wale's programme was sold out," he said.
He described the shut down of the event as "bad news," as police acted for safety reasons.
Despite the incident, the patron said the turnout reflected the artiste's popularity.
"Shatta Wale is a legend," he said.
Shattafest UK was organised as part of Akwaaba UK's annual Ghana Party in the Park 2026 festival.
The cause of the stampede has not been officially confirmed by authorities. Police have only stated that the event was shut down following "a massive accident" involving a stampede that left several people injured. Organisers have also urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
