I’m not campaigning for NDC; I only impressed on Mahama to keep his word, I’ve seen him do it before – Mercy Asiedu
Mercy Asiedu has asserted she is only “a star that shines on all” and nonpartisan.
She was explaining why she has been seen engaging both the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The movie star spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, Monday, October 7, 2024.
“It’s just that in Ghana when you speak the truth, people think you are supporting this group and opposing the other. I don’t let it bother me nor am I surprised,” Ms Asiedu said.
She explained she went to see NDC flagbearer John Mahama at AH Hotel “because I am a creative arts person and he was meeting players of the creative arts”.
She said while at the engagement, she impressed on the former president to take his promises to the creative arts seriously.
“If God wills and you come into power, don’t forget what you’ve said,” she recalled saying.
She testified during his initial tenure, Mahama had given an opportunity for creative arts players to own cars on loan, and expressed fondness for the initiative.
Mahama “has done it before, he’s given some of us cars, and so if he says he’ll take care of us once he is back in office, all I am saying is, he shouldn’t forget us,” she reiterated.
She categorically stated, however, “This is not a campaign message.”
The Kumawood star noted she was not afraid to speak the truth and point to what is right without any sense of favouritism.
She added she was not moved by the insults which came her way online when her participation in the said engagement and her remarks were captured by the media.
