TGMAs 2025: King Promise declares he is the only legitimate Artiste of the Year

Afrobeats superstar King Promise (KP) has asserted he is the only legitimate music maker to be crowned the Artiste of the Year at the upcoming 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
He put his foot down in his trademark big boots while performing at the plush 40th birthday celebration of businessman and investor Richard Nii-Armah Quaye (RNAQ), Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Independence (Black Star) Square, Accra.
“I got nominated for Artiste of the Year as well this year, you know what I’m saying?” KP proudly proclaimed, cocking his head rhythmically.
“Nobody has worked more than us,” he added repeatedly, this time, in Pidgin English.
“I’m always proud, I’m always honoured, to represent Ghana to the world.”
For last year’s TGMAs, globe-trotting musician King Promise was a favourite to win but Afro-Dancehall superstar Stonebwoy stole the show. This year, even though Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, Kweku Smoke, Joe Mettle, and Team Eternity Ghana (TEG) have all been nominated, the favourites to win are King Promise and Hiplife star King Paluta.
King Promise during his time on stage at RNAQ’s event indicated he was aware of plans to deny him victory twice consecutively. He intimated, however, he and his team were unperturbed and focused on imminent glory.
“This song was number one throughout the year more than any song last year 2024. So whether agenda [against me] or no agenda, we don’t even see them. International we go fly…” he declared, using lyrics from his Continental hit, before performing his viral Paris song, all from his commercially successful True to Self album.
For an audience, KP had prominent people in business and entertainment from Ghana, Nigeria and East Africa, among others.
The Telecel Ghana Music Awards takes place on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
