Kwahuhene calls for expansion of Kwahu Easter celebrations to all communities
The Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, has appealed to chiefs within the traditional area to work together to expand the annual Kwahu Easter celebrations to cover all Kwahu communities.
According to the Kwahuhene, the Easter festival has evolved into one of Ghana’s major cultural and tourism events, attracting thousands of visitors from within the country and abroad, and making significant contributions to local economic development. He noted that broadening the scope of the celebrations would ensure more inclusive growth across the Kwahu Traditional Area.
Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III explained that extending Easter-related activities to other communities would help create employment and business opportunities for the youth, promote equitable development, and deepen unity among the Kwahu people.
The call was made during a traditional durbar held at Kwahu Abene to mark the first anniversary of his installation as Kwahuhene.
The event brought together divisional chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents, with deliberations focused on cultural preservation and ways to maximise the economic benefits of the Easter festivities.
The Paramount Chief encouraged traditional leaders to organise community-based programmes such as cultural exhibitions, sporting activities, and tourism showcases during the Easter period to complement the main celebrations.
He expressed optimism that with effective planning and collective effort, the Kwahu Easter festival could be transformed into a broader platform for showcasing the rich culture, hospitality, and development potential of the entire Kwahu Traditional Area.
In a related address, the Chief of Kwahu Obomeng, Odeefour Effah Opinamang III, who also serves as the Acting Kwahu Nifahene, emphasised the importance of peace and unity, describing them as essential to sustaining and further enhancing the Kwahu Easter celebrations.
