Otumfuo Osei Tutu II takes break from official duties, delegates responsibilities
The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has taken a temporary break from all official duties effective Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
As part of the arrangement, the Asantehene departed the country on Tuesday morning, according to sources at the Manhyia Palace.
In his absence, responsibilities within Kumasi have been delegated to the Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, while oversight of Asanteman affairs has been entrusted to the Offinsohene, Nana Dwamena Akenten II.
The delegation of duties is in line with Asante tradition, which ensures continuity of leadership and governance whenever the Asantehene is away.
No further details were immediately provided regarding the duration of the monarch’s leave.
