Security tightened for 2026 Sankana Kalibi Ganlaa festival in Wa today

Organisers of the 2026 Sankana Kalibi Ganlaa Festival have intensified preparations following a key security meeting with the Upper West Regional Police Command in Wa.

The meeting, led by Bernard Monnah on behalf of the Sankana Naa and the Local Organising Committee, was held with Regional Police Commander Francis Yiribaare to finalise security arrangements for the event.

Organisers say preparations are well advanced, with security measures firmly in place.

The festival will commence on Friday, April 24, with a public lecture by renowned Pan-Africanist PLO Lumumba at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies.

The lecture is scheduled for 2:00 pm at the university’s new auditorium.

Activities will climax on Saturday, April 25, with a grand durbar at the Sankana Schools Park.

High-profile personalities expected to attend include Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, as well as traditional leaders such as Kari Naa, Naa Bakpem Abdulai Nantogma, and Kyee Naa II, Naba Dazur.
