A new chapter has begun for Ghanaian skills on the world stage.

Since becoming an official Member of WorldSkills International in September 2019, Ghana has nurtured the ambition of competing alongside the world’s best young skills talents. That long-held ambition has now become a reality as Team Ghana makes its historic debut at the WorldSkills International Competition in Shanghai, China.

The 48th WorldSkills Competition officially opened on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, bringing together young competitors from across the world to compete in a wide range of skills.

Representing Ghana are three talented young competitors who will test their skills against the best in the world in Welding, Electrical Installations, and IT Network Systems Administration.

Leading the Ghanaian delegation is the Director-General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), Mr. Zakaria Sulemana, together with officials from CTVET who are supporting Team Ghana throughout the competition.

For these young competitors, Shanghai is more than a competition. It is an opportunity to showcase Ghanaian talent, exchange knowledge with the global skills community, benchmark their abilities against international standards, and inspire a new generation of young people to see technical and vocational skills as a pathway to opportunity, innovation and success.

As the competition gets underway, Team Ghana carries the hopes and pride of a nation.

The goal is clear: compete with excellence, learn from the best, fly the Ghana flag high and, hopefully, return home with medals.
