A/R: Barekese Water Treatment Plant to shut down temporarily for ECG maintenance

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The shutdown, according to the GWCL, is to enable the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to carry out scheduled maintenance works on power lines that supply electricity to the facility.
A communique from ECG detailing the planned activity was attached to the notice issued by GWCL.
Authorities have assured the public that operations at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant will resume immediately after power is restored.
GWCL has urged residents and businesses in affected areas to store enough water ahead of the shutdown period and has appealed for the public’s cooperation and understanding.
The Barekese Water Treatment Plant is a key facility serving the Greater Kumasi area and surrounding communities.
