Accra Police arrest 3 foreigners over suspected SIM Box Fraud
The Accra Regional Police Command has taken into custody three foreign nationals over their alleged involvement in SIM box fraud operations at the Sakumono Ramsar enclave in Accra.
The arrests were made on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, after security agencies acted on intelligence and carried out targeted operations in some residential apartments within the area.
Police identified the suspects as Timileyin Fakunle, aged 30; Begun Adedeji, 31; and Olamide Roheemot, 28. According to the Police, the individuals were apprehended in different apartments.
Items believed to be linked to the suspected illegal activity, including advanced electronic devices, SIM box equipment, and numerous SIM cards, were recovered during searches conducted at the locations.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects may not have acted alone. During questioning, they reportedly mentioned two other individuals, identified as Mike and Kpalumi, who are currently evading arrest. The alleged ringleader, known only as Tomy, a Chinese national said to be operating remotely, is also being sought by authorities.
The Police indicated that they are working closely with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to securely retrieve and technically analyse the seized equipment to aid ongoing investigations.
The suspects remain in Police custody as investigations continue.
In the meantime, the Accra Regional Police Command has advised landlords and residents to exercise caution when leasing properties, urging them to conduct proper background checks on prospective tenants. Members of the public have also been encouraged to promptly report any unusual or suspicious activities.
The Command reaffirmed its determination to clamp down on cybercrime and offences related to telecommunications within the region.
