The Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Randy Abbey, has met with members of the Council of State to deliberate on key policy measures and strategic reforms aimed at securing the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

Dr. Abbey, accompanied by top management of COCOBOD, used the engagement to outline critical challenges facing the industry and proposed reforms to strengthen the cocoa value chain.

He highlighted the limitations of the current cocoa collateralisation model, explaining that it does not adequately promote local value addition or deliver equitable benefits across the sector.

According to him, there is an urgent need to introduce a more sustainable financing framework that enhances resilience and supports greater participation of local industry players.

The COCOBOD Chief Executive reaffirmed his commitment to driving comprehensive reforms in line with the President’s vision of building a stronger, more competitive, and sustainable cocoa industry.

The discussions form part of ongoing consultations aimed at repositioning Ghana’s cocoa sector to meet emerging global demands while safeguarding the livelihoods of farmers and stakeholders.
