DVLA to open six overseas offices to help curb fake Ghanaian licences abroad

In a bold move to combat the growing circulation of fake Ghanaian driving licences among citizens living overseas, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced plans to establish six new offices outside Ghana.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, during the opening of a new state-of-the-art DVLA office in the Adentan Municipality.
The new Adentan facility will operate 24- hours a day and provide a full range of DVLA services, including driver licensing and vehicle registration.
Speaking at the event, DVLA Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey said the international expansion aims to provide a secure and efficient licensing system for Ghanaians abroad while tackling the issue of forged licences associated with Ghana in foreign countries.
“The DVLA under my leadership, together with Mr. Foster Yeboah, is set to open six new offices outside Ghana to address licensing challenges faced by our citizens abroad,” Mr. Kotey disclosed.
“We’ve engaged some of our embassies and secured initial partnerships in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa.
These will form the pilot phase of the initiative.”
The new system will enable Ghanaians overseas to obtain authentic Ghanaian driving licences through approved and verified channels, eliminating reliance on unauthorised agents and fraudulent processes.
Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who attended the opening ceremony as the guest of honour, lauded the initiative and urged the DVLA to maintain high standards of service delivery.
“On behalf of the President, I urge the DVLA to enhance its service to the people,” the minister said.
“They are mandated to ensure that every vehicle on our roads is roadworthy and every licence is legitimate. The people of Ghana deserve no less than excellence from the DVLA.”
