Nana Agyei Bafour Awuah, defense counsel for 26-year-old TikToker Akosua Serwaa Minat, has described the ¢1 million bail granted to his client as excessive and its accompanying conditions as overly stringent.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, May 22, Bafour Awuah stated that the defense team is dissatisfied with the bail terms, which they believe impose an unfair burden on the accused.

He confirmed that the conditions are currently undergoing legal review as the defense determines its next steps.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution read the charges against the accused, alleging that she issued death threats against President John Dramani Mahama in viral social media videos.

The TikToker, identified by police as Mahama Aminat and known online as Akosua Serwaa Minat, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Although the state fiercely opposed the bail application, the judge opted to grant bail but attached high financial and administrative conditions. The approved terms include a ¢1 million bond with two sureties, one of whom must be a civil servant with a monthly salary of at least ¢5,000.

Additionally, the accused must surrender either her passport or Ghana Card to the police and report regularly to investigators for the duration of the trial.

The accused was originally arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) following the circulation of the controversial videos.
