Energy Minister John Jinapor forecasts rebound in Ghana’s petroleum production following 5-year decline
Energy Minister John Jinapor has announced that Ghana's petroleum production is expected to increase this year, reversing five consecutive years of declining output.
Speaking at President John Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana” citizens engagement event in the Savannah Region on Saturday, May 23, Jinapor stated that the government is executing strategy measures to stabilise the energy sector and attract fresh investments into upstream oil and gas production.
To drive this recovery, Jinapor disclosed that the government has signed a $1.5 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Italian energy multinational Eni, in addition to a separate $2 billion agreement with the Jubilee Partners.
These financial commitments are intended to reinforce the upstream petroleum sector and support the projected growth in crude oil extraction.
Jinapor acknowledged that while the country's energy sector continues to face challenges, current policy reforms and incoming capital investments are beginning to show positive outcomes.
