Energy Minister calls for stronger collaboration and investment in Africa’s energy sector

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has urged greater collaboration among African nations and stronger global investment in the continent’s energy sector.
Speaking as a panellist at the ongoing Gastech 2025 in Houston, Texas, the Minister contributed to a high-level discussion on “Powering Growth & Prosperity in High Potential Economies Through Widened Access to Affordable, Reliable, and Flexible Energy.”
Mr. Jinapor stressed that Africa’s energy policies must be considered within a continental framework, pointing out that collective strategies will help accelerate development and industrialisation.
He cited Ghana’s importation of gas from Nigeria to generate electricity, which is then exported to neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso, Togo, and Benin, as a clear example of regional collaboration that benefits multiple nations.
Reiterating Africa’s rising global importance, the Minister declared that the continent is “the next investment destination,” warning that those who delay risk missing out on vast opportunities.
“The earlier you invest in Africa, the better. If not, you may be late,” he said, adding that all partnerships in Africa’s energy transition must deliver mutual benefits for both investors and the African people.
Mr. Jinapor’s remarks come at a time when Africa is positioning itself as a frontier for sustainable energy solutions, with growing demand for affordable, reliable, and flexible power to drive socio-economic growth.
