Energy Minister holds talks with UNIDO on sustainable industrial development
The Minister for Energy and Energy Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has received a courtesy call from officials of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) on the sidelines of the African Trade Summit.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between Ghana and UNIDO in advancing inclusive and sustainable industrial development across the country and the wider African continent.
Discussions centred on UNIDO’s core mandate, including boosting manufacturing capacity, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), promoting industrial innovation, and developing green and resilient value chains.
Dr Jinapor noted that industrialisation remains central to Ghana’s economic transformation agenda, particularly as the country pursues an energy transition that balances growth with environmental sustainability.
He expressed Ghana’s readiness to work closely with UNIDO to harness technical expertise and global best practices to support industrial growth and job creation.
The UNIDO delegation highlighted the organisation’s ongoing efforts to assist African countries in strengthening productive capacities, enhancing competitiveness, and integrating sustainability into industrial processes.
They also emphasised the importance of partnerships in driving innovation and ensuring that industrial development contributes to climate resilience and inclusive economic growth.
Dr Jinapor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with UNIDO, stressing that stronger partnerships would help accelerate sustainable development and shared prosperity for Ghanaians.
