President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all his scheduled activities and programmes for the rest of the week.
This came after Wednesday's national tragedy involving eight persons who died in the crash of a Z9 helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The helicopter was bound for Obuasi, from Accra, and its occupants included Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
“There will be three days of national mourning starting tomorrow, Thursday, 7 August 2025,” a statement from the presidency announced.
The government, through the Chief of Staff, earlier directed that all flags must fly at half-mast until further notice.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances leading to the tragedy, GAF has said.
