GJA holds press conference to address journalists’ safety and New Year commitments
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has invited the media to a press conference scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Press Centre, starting at 1:00 PM.
The event will be led by the President of the association, Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour.
The press conference is set to highlight key issues affecting the journalism profession in Ghana.
Among the main topics on the agenda are the GJA’s New Year commitments, concerns over attacks on journalists, and the coverage of the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to raise questions on other national issues affecting the media landscape.
Mr Dwumfour and the GJA leadership are expected to outline strategies and initiatives for improving journalists’ welfare, safety, and professionalism in the year ahead.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has been accused of attacking a journalist with Class Media Group (CMG) called Samuel Addo. The situation has raised great concern among members of the public, attracting widespread condemnation from media stakeholders.
Alhaji Seidu Agongo, founder of CMG, has expressed “deep concern over the assault on one of our journalists”.
Alhaji Agongo described the incident as deeply troubling, noting that it not only threatens press freedom and the safety of journalists but also undermines Ghana’s credibility and standing as a defender of media rights.
He stressed the need for the matter to be addressed promptly by the relevant authorities to ensure accountability.
He further called for calm as investigations into the incident proceed.
