GOIL issues public warning over fake AI-generated video impersonating CEO
The management of GOIL PLC has issued a strong public warning over a fraudulent video circulating on social media that falsely depicts its Group CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Edward Abambire Bawa, as announcing a so-called “government-backed gold project” or “customer reward scheme.”
In a statement released by the company, GOIL described the video as maliciously fabricated and digitally manipulated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
“GOIL PLC is not undertaking, and has not undertaken, any gold-related venture, government-backed project, or customer reward scheme as alleged in the said video.
The content is fake, deceitful, and clearly generated using Artificial Intelligence for fraudulent purposes,” the statement read.
The company condemned the act of digital impersonation, describing it as a calculated attempt to undermine public trust and damage the reputation of one of Ghana’s leading indigenous oil marketing companies.
GOIL further disclosed that it is working closely with security and cybercrime authorities to trace and prosecute the perpetrators behind the fake video, calling the act a “serious cyber-offence.”
“We urge the public to exercise utmost caution and disregard this concocted material entirely,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its commitment to integrity and transparency, GOIL emphasised that it remains a responsible corporate entity dedicated to ethical business practices and the protection of its customers and stakeholders.
The company encouraged the public to verify all information about its operations through official communication channels, including its website (www.goil.com.gh) and verified social media accounts.
GOIL concluded by reassuring Ghanaians of its dedication to delivering quality energy solutions under its guiding principle — “Energy in Motion, Integrity at Work.”
