Ghana, China deepens tourism and cultural ties with new MoU in Beijing
Ghana has taken a major step to strengthen its cultural and tourism relations with China following the official state visit of President John Dramani Mahama to China last year at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
As part of the follow-up engagements, a high-level government delegation led by the Presidential Advisor to the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, Mr Augustus Tanoh, has concluded a series of strategic meetings in Beijing aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.
Through the initiative of the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday at the Beijing Language and Culture University to deepen collaboration between the two countries in key creative and cultural sectors.
The MoU covers cooperation in tourism development, arts and culture, festivals, film, music, and culinary heritage, positioning Ghana to leverage China’s vast cultural market and global reach.
As part of the agreement, Ghana has secured an international exhibition in Beijing scheduled for March 2026, which will showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage, creative industries and tourism potential to a global audience.
The partnership also provides for the establishment of a Ghana–China Research Institute for Tourism, Arts and Culture, which is expected to serve as a platform for academic exchange, policy research, capacity building and innovation in the creative economy.
The engagements build on the renewed momentum in Ghana–China relations following President Mahama’s state visit and align with the government’s broader strategy to promote cultural diplomacy, expand tourism, and unlock economic opportunities within the 24-Hour Economy framework.
