Gov’t condemns alleged assault on Class Media Group journalist
The Minister for Government Communications, Mr Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has strongly condemned the alleged assault on Class Media Group journalist, Samuel Addo, by some personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, describing the incident as “most unacceptable.”
Reacting to the incident, the Minister said the attack on the journalist, who was reportedly on duty at the time, undermines press freedom and professionalism within the country’s security and emergency services.
“This is most unacceptable, and I condemn it,” Mr. Ofosu Kwakye stated, adding that firm action will be taken against the rogue officers involved in the alleged attack.
The Minister assured the public that the government will not tolerate acts of misconduct by state officials, especially those that threaten the safety of journalists and the freedom of the media.
The alleged assault, which occurred while Mr. Addo was covering an incident involving fire service personnel at the Kasoa New Market in the Central Region, has drawn widespread condemnation from media practitioners and press freedom advocates, who have called for swift investigations and accountability.
Meanwhile, authorities are expected to commence investigations into the incident, as calls grow for sanctions against any officers found culpable.
