The father of 23-year-old Central University law student Ivan Baidoo has called for a transparent investigation into his son’s death, urging the Ghana Police Service to publicly communicate its findings.

Evans Baidoo said the family wants the circumstances surrounding Ivan’s death to be fully established, particularly because the police service is investigating its own officer.

Speaking on the Channel One TV's Newsroom programme on Saturday, September 12, he said the family would also continue to pursue justice as it prepares to bury Ivan on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

The burial will follow a pre-burial service at 6 AM, with the main burial service scheduled for 7 AM at CEM Rehoboth Temple near Wisconsin University, North Legon, Accra.

“I am asking Ghanaians who can pass by to pay Ivan their last respect. He deserves a send off,” Mr Baidoo said.

Ivan died on August 27, 2026, following a crash involving a YANGO-operated motorbike on which he was travelling on the Tema Motorway.

His death has triggered calls for a thorough investigation after the Ghana Police Service identified, arrested and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the incident.

According to the family’s petition, the motorbike rider told investigators that a police patrol officer chased them and allegedly hit their motorbike from behind, causing them to fall.

Mr Baidoo said the family received the officer’s interdiction with mixed emotions but believes further action is needed to establish what happened.

He is demanding that the investigation be transparent and that the Police Service publicly disclose its findings.

He also wants the officer prosecuted if the investigation establishes culpability.

Mr Baidoo said he does not believe his son died in an ordinary accident.

The family said its demand for justice will continue even as it prepares to lay the Central University student to rest on September 19.

A police statement has assured the public that “appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations,” as the matter “is being thoroughly investigated”.
