John Dumelo launches free weekly cocoa drink initiative for public basic schools in Ayawaso West Wuogon
The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Setor Dumelo, has announced the launch of a free cocoa drink distribution programme for public basic school pupils within the constituency.
Effective March 2, 2026, pupils from Class 1 to Class 4 in all public basic schools in the constituency will receive Ghana-made cocoa drinks once a week until the end of the year.
According to the MP, the initiative is aimed at improving child nutrition while promoting local industry.
He noted that cocoa is rich in antioxidants, iron, and magnesium—nutrients essential for cognitive development and sustained energy levels among growing children.
Beyond the health benefits, Mr. Dumelo said the programme is designed to support Ghanaian cocoa farmers and local manufacturers by sourcing exclusively Ghana-made products.
He further indicated that the initiative is expected to enhance school attendance by providing nutritious incentives that encourage consistent enrollment and participation in public schools.
The MP described the programme as a demonstration of national pride, emphasising the importance of instilling in children an appreciation for cocoa—often referred to as Ghana’s “gold.”
Mr. Dumelo reiterated his belief that a healthy child is better positioned to learn, stating that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to build a stronger, healthier, and smarter future for the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
