Legal practitioner Andy Appiah-Kubi has advocated for the live telecast of high-profile criminal cases in Ghana, stating that increased public access is vital for transparency and confidence in the judiciary.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the lawyer urged the head of the judiciary to consider expanding media access to significant court proceedings.

A Call for Firsthand Public Scrutiny

Mr Appiah-Kubi argued that allowing citizens to watch key trials unfold in real time would dismantle doubts surrounding the fairness of the legal process.

"Left to me, the Chief Justice should make them telecast high-profile cases so we all see what goes down in the court," he stated.

The legal practitioner, who serves as counsel for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (popularly known as Chairman Wontumi), explained that public observation serves as a necessary check on the administration of justice.

Reflections on Judicial Reform

Citing his personal observations during court proceedings, Mr Appiah-Kubi noted that firsthand legal experiences have highlighted the urgency for systemic adjustments.

"Per my experience, we need to correct ourselves," he remarked.

Stance Against Perceived Injustice

Addressing his personal approach to legal practice, the lawyer emphasized his willingness to speak out plainly against unfair treatment within the system, irrespective of the professional risks involved.

"If it takes me to hand over my licence on the basis of injustice, I will," Mr Appiah-Kubi said.

"I don't decorate my language when I feel I'm being cheated."
