The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across six regions for failing to comply with Ghana’s Frequency Modulation (FM) broadcasting regulations, despite a 30-day grace period granted by President John Mahama.

According to the NCA, the affected stations fall into two categories — those that took no remedial action and those with partial compliance but still operating in breach of specific regulations.

Stations Taking No Remedial Action
These stations were suspended for failing to address regulatory violations:

Donplus Multimedia Limited – 105.9 MHz (Ho)

Dreams Ghana Media Limited – 104.9 MHz (New Abirem)

Jam Multimedia Limited – 101.3 MHz (Kintampo)

Jewel Group Limited – 102.7 MHz (Duayaw Nkwanta)

Kpandai Star Community Radio – 107.3 MHz (Kpandai)

Unique Gateway Communication Ltd – 105.7 MHz (Nkawkaw)

Stations With Partial Compliance
These were suspended for specific ongoing breaches:

Wontumi Multimedia Company Ltd – 95.9 MHz (Accra): Unauthorised STL frequency use and unapproved transmitter location.

Wontumi Multimedia Company Ltd – 101.3 MHz (Kumasi): Operating without a Certificate of Compliance, violating Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (LI 1991).

Wontumi Multimedia Company Ltd – 101.3 MHz (Takoradi): Same compliance breach as Kumasi.

The NCA said the suspensions will remain in place until the affected stations submit proof of compliance to its Licensing Division.

“The Authority will continue monitoring the broadcasting space to ensure compliance with Ghana’s laws and regulations,” it stated.

The enforcement affects media outlets in the Volta, Eastern, Bono, and other regions, and notably impacts Wontumi Multimedia, owned by NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, which has previously faced penalties for similar breaches.
