NDC marks fifth anniversary of President Rawlings' passing
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) today solemnly commemorates the fifth anniversary of the passing of its founder and Ghana’s former President, His Excellency Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the party reflected on the late leader’s enduring legacy and profound impact on Ghana’s political and social development.
“As the party, the nation, and his numerous admirers worldwide remember him for his sterling contributions to the development and welfare of our people, we in the NDC remain assured that absolutely nothing will erase his legacy from the history of Ghana,” the statement read.
The commemoration is shadowed by a second recent loss—the passing of the former First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
The NDC noted with sadness that she has yet to receive a full state-assisted funeral to honour her own significant contributions to the nation.
“In the long sweep of history, 5 years may appear short, but for us in the NDC, it has been 5 long years of mourning and sorrow. We shall always remember him,” the tribute continued.
The statement, signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah Esq., concluded with a heartfelt farewell: “Comrade President, Chairman Rawlings, continue to rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord.”
The anniversary has reignited reflections on the Rawlings era and calls for a fitting national tribute to both the former President and the late First Lady.
