The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has restored order following a disturbance during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Efigya Sekyere East Constituency Executive Elections held at the SDA Church polling station in Wiamoase on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

According to a police press release signed by Assistant Superintendent Emmanuel Agbodzi of the Public Affairs unit, the incident began at approximately 7:45 AM when 43-year-old Kwame Afrifa Mensah allegedly led a group of about 30 men to the polling center.

When security personnel questioned the group regarding their presence, the men became aggressive, attacked the police, and threw electoral materials onto the ground, disrupting the voting process.

Police swiftly arrested Mensah, the suspected ringleader, along with six other individuals. The remaining members of the group fled the scene, and police are currently working to apprehend them.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Mensah claimed his supporters had been sidelined in the election process and asserted that he had secured an interlocutory injunction to halt the polls.

However, police stated that neither the Electoral Commission (EC) nor the police service had received any court order or injunction directing a suspension of the elections.

Following the police intervention, voting resumed under tight security and concluded peacefully at around 4 PM, after which the Electoral Commission declared the official results.

Later that day, Mensah and another suspect, 44-year-old Osman Awuni, complained of ill health. Both were transported to the Mampong Government Hospital, where they have been admitted and remain under police guard.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
