President Mahama calls for stronger Risk Management at 2025 Internal Audit Conference
President John Dramani Mahama has emphasised the critical role of internal auditors in safeguarding public resources and ensuring the success of Ghana’s ongoing economic transformation agenda.
Speaking through Mr. Julius Debrah, who delivered his address at the 2025 Annual Internal Audit Conference, President Mahama underscored the need for institutions to strengthen their internal control systems and effectively manage operational risks.
“As we embark on this agenda of economic transformation and reset, inherent in this is the need to manage the risks of our programmes, policies, and plans,” he stated.
He reminded participants that the Internal Audit Agency Act mandates the Agency — through its internal auditors — to ensure that risks associated with public sector programmes and projects are adequately identified, assessed, and mitigated.
“Ultimately, Ghanaians are the shareholders, and it is in their interest that management and you, internal auditors, must act,” President Mahama emphasised.
The conference brought together internal auditors from across the public and private sectors to deliberate on the theme of accountability, transparency, and effective governance in national development.
President Mahama’s message called for renewed professionalism, vigilance, and ethical conduct among internal auditors, describing their work as “a cornerstone of good governance and fiscal discipline.”
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening audit institutions and promoting a culture of integrity across all levels of public service, ensuring that every cedi spent contributes to Ghana’s long-term economic growth and public welfare.
