As part of this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebrations, SUDEF Ghana, a Non-Governmental organisation, has donated sanitary pads to female students from seven junior high schools in Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region.

The gesture aims to support girls whose families are unable to afford menstrual hygiene products.

In addition to the donation, the organisation held educational sessions to raise awareness about the importance of proper menstrual hygiene practices among schoolgirls.

Speaking to CTV and Accra FM, the CEO of SUDEF Ghana, Rev. John Baidoo, said the initiative was designed to complement the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of female students nationwide.

He emphasised SUDEF Ghana’s commitment to working with the government and stakeholders on child-centred issues, particularly menstrual hygiene.

“We believe menstrual hygiene is a basic right, not a privilege.

SUDEF is ready to partner with government agencies and civil society organisations to ensure no girl stays out of school because of her period,” Rev. Baidoo said.

Dr. Gustav M. Osiakwan, Bono Ahafo Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, also spoke at the event.

He urged teachers and parents to instil proper menstrual hygiene practices in children, stressing its importance for the health and confidence of young girls.

Dr. Osiakwan applauded the government’s ongoing support for female students and called on other stakeholders to intensify efforts in promoting menstrual health education and access to hygiene products.
