Tema Traditional Council receives a brand-new 16-seater bus from TDC Ghana Limited

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, TDC Ghana Limited has donated a brand-new 16-seater Foton CS2 New View bus, fitted with central air conditioning, to the Tema Traditional Council to support its official activities.

The company also presented a cash donation, five 25kg bags of rice, three bags of sugar, six cartons of assorted drinks, and fifty packs of bottled water to the Council.

In addition to the vehicle and other items, TDC Ghana pledged a monthly fuel support of GH¢500 for the next four years to help with the operational costs of the bus.

Speaking to Class News, the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Courage Nunekpeku Makafui, said the donation forms part of the company’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.

According to him, the support was in response to a request from the Tema Traditional Council, stressing that although the company does not have unlimited resources, it remains committed to supporting worthy causes and institutions whenever the need arises.

The Managing Director also used the occasion to call on traditional leaders to intensify efforts to curb the illegal sale of lands, particularly those located within waterways. He noted that such illegal activities contribute significantly to flooding, which has claimed lives and destroyed properties in recent years.

Mr Makafui further disclosed that TDC Ghana will soon begin a demolition exercise to remove illegal structures built on waterways. He warned that the exercise would be carried out without compromise, adding that it would not be “business as usual.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Armah Somponu, Shipi, expressed gratitude to TDC Ghana, describing the gesture as timely and one that would greatly improve transportation for the Council’s official engagements.

He assured the company that the bus would be properly maintained and put to good use.

Nii Armah Somponu also acknowledged that some individuals engage in the illegal sale of lands on waterways, although he noted that some of the challenges stem from the Council’s financial constraints. He appealed to TDC Ghana to continue supporting the Council in addressing such issues.

He pledged that the Tema Traditional Council would intensify efforts to combat illegal land sales, emphasizing that the recent floods affected everyone indiscriminately and underscored the urgent need to protect lives and property through responsible land administration.
