The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced the successful interception and seizure of a large consignment of suspected cannabis at Torve, near Akatsi in the Volta Region.

According to the Aflao Sector Command, the Preventive Monitoring Unit (PMU) carried out the operation on October 15, 2026, at 9:35 p.m., following credible intelligence on a suspicious black Lexus vehicle believed to be transporting illicit substances.

The driver attempted to flee but abandoned the vehicle after a mechanical fault. A subsequent search revealed 1,065 compressed parcels of suspected cannabis, weighing 560.4 kilograms. The estimated street value of the consignment is GHS 11.2 million.

A Ghana Card bearing the name Kunuhor Gidsway was retrieved from the vehicle, which carried falsified registration plates.

The seizure was jointly examined and authenticated by officers from:

* National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)

* Defense Intelligence

* Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC)

* Food and Drugs Authority (FDA)

* National Security

The items have been documented and secured for laboratory confirmation and evidential purposes.

The Customs Division has since handed over the seized consignment and vehicle to NACOC for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Customs has also recommended the following:

- Tracing and apprehending suspect who fled the scene.

- Verification of Ghana Card with the National Identification Authority.

- Laboratory testing of the seized substances.

- Strengthening intelligence networks to disrupt future trafficking attempts.

The Sector Commander for Aflao Collection, Emmanuel Reginald Duh, described the seizure as a “significant disruption to the illegal drug trade in the region”, underscoring Customs Division's commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s borders against contraband.
