The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a shooting incident which led to the injuries of six civilians and three police officers during the burial and funeral rites of six family members at Asamankese.

Police made the arrests on Sunday, October 26, 2025, the suspects being: Isaac Ntim Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam, 29, and Buaben Richard, 25.

Police had information that some people were conveying guns and cartridges into a room near the chiefs palace, and subsequently dispatched personnel to the scene for their arrest.

The operation led to the retrieval of one single barrel gun, 84 live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses and two knives.

During the arrests, some agitated youth attacked the police officers with stones and other implements, causing injuries to three police officers on their heads and hands, respectively.

The attack also damaged the windscreen and side glass of two police vehicles.

The rowdy youth also blocked the road at Asamankese-Akroso Junction, and around the chief's palace.

They fired guns indiscriminately on the allegation that the bereaved family which was conducting burial and funeral rites may bury their six bodies in the royal cemetery.

In the process, six victims; David Odame, 28, Musah Gyakweli, 29, Patrick Ofosu, Obeng Emmanuel, 18, Asamoah Sey, 18, and one other yet to be identified, sustained gunshot injuries.

The victims are on admission at the Asamankese Government Hospital receiving treatment.

All the suspects are in police custody assisting with investigation.

The situation has been normalised and Asamankese Township is calm, police has reported.

Additionally, the Eastern South Regional Police Command has intensified patrols and surveillance in the town to maintain law and other.

A police statement signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Public Affairs Unit, Eastern South Region, assured of a security strategy put in place to protect life and property for people to go about their normal duties in the community.
