The Deputy Attorney-General and Deputy Minister for Justice, Justice Srem-Sai, says the Attorney-General is working with authorities in the United States to bring to book persons implicated in the bribery scheme linked to a 2014–2017 power plant development contract between a Turkish energy company and the Government of Ghana.

In a Facebook post, Justice Srem-Sai said the move follows the conviction of former Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Managing Director Asante Kwaku Berko by a US federal jury in Brooklyn, New York.

He said Mr Berko was convicted on charges of conspiracy to violate the United States’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other related laws.

Mr Berko was convicted on August 6, 2026, following a trial over allegations that he conspired with others to pay more than US$1 million in bribes to Ghanaian government officials in connection with the development and financing of a power plant in Ghana.

He was also convicted of violating the FCPA and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Mr Berko, a former Goldman Sachs executive and former TOR boss, now awaits sentencing in the United States and faces up to 30 years in prison.

Justice Srem-Sai did not identify the other persons allegedly implicated in the scheme or provide details on the specific action being taken against them.

“The Honourable Attorney-General is working with his United States counterparts to bring to book persons who are implicated in the bribery scheme related to the 2014-2017 power plant development contract between a Turkish energy company and the Government,” he said.

“This follows Asante Kwaku Berko’s conviction by a United States federal jury in Brooklyn, New York, on charges of conspiracy to violate the United States’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other related laws.”
