Dennis 'Miracles' Aboagye says he has not received any communication from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) regarding reports that his bank accounts have been frozen and restrictions placed on his landed properties, insisting that attention should instead be on what the New Patriotic Party (NPP) describes as threats to Ghana's democracy.

Speaking to journalists at the grounds of the NPP's 'Democracy Under Attack' demonstration on Thursday, August 6, Miracles was asked about the High Court order obtained by EOCO to freeze his accounts and restrict dealings in some of his landed properties as part of an ongoing investigation.

"I haven't seen anything from EOCO saying that," he said.

"I really don't know anything about what you're talking about."

Miracles argued that focusing on his situation or that of other individuals distracted from the purpose of the nationwide protest.

He said the demonstration was intended to draw attention to what the NPP says are attempts by the government to intimidate critics and suppress free expression.

The NPP National Communications Director aspirant expressed confidence that the protest would end peacefully.

"It'll end peacefully," he said, adding that "in this country, we've always had peaceful protests."

He emphasised that each protester had rights to express their disatisfaction with President John Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration and return home "in one piece".

He also urged journalists to be concerned about what he described as an attack on free expression.

"You should be worried about what's going on," he told reporters, saying that was the reason for the NPP demonstration which has attracted thousands of supporters. 

According to him, some journalists and bloggers had faced harassment under the current administration.

"Some of your colleagues have been molested under this government, especially some of you holding cameras as bloggers. At least, I know four, five bloggers who have been arrested," he said.

Without mentioning anyone by name, Miracles also claimed that a blogger had been arrested for sharing a video of President John Mahama that was already in the public domain, arguing that the action was unfair.

The government has consistently rejected the allegations at the foundation of the NPP's demonstration.
