O/R: Police seizes cannabis worth over GHS1.4m from impounded truck
Police in the Oti Region have uncovered a large cache of suspected cannabis concealed in an impounded truck, with the seized substances estimated to have a street value exceeding GHS 1.4 million.
According to a statement issued by the Service’s Regional Headquarters in Dambai, the drugs were discovered in a Volvo truck with registration number GC 3522-09 that had earlier been intercepted at the Bonakye checkpoint late last year.
The vehicle was initially stopped on December 29, 2025, while travelling toward Kpassa after intelligence suggested it was transporting illegal goods. However, the driver and another occupant reportedly fled the scene, abandoning the truck with the ignition key still inside.

Following a court order from the Jasikan Circuit Court, authorities opened the vehicle on February 24, 2026, at Nkwanta in the presence of security agencies and media representatives.
Personnel from the Police, Military, Defence Intelligence, the Narcotics Control Commission, and the Ghana National Fire Service participated in the inspection.
Officers found 320 cartons of bottled mineral water used to conceal 91 bales of suspected cannabis. The haul reportedly amounted to 7,173 slabs of the substance.
Police say the exhibits have been retained as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects who abandoned the vehicle.
The Service reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged the public to volunteer information that could assist law enforcement in preventing and detecting crime.
The statement was signed by John Nchor, Deputy Superintendent of Police and head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Oti Region.
