The police investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, is now being handled at Police Headquarters in Accra, after Mr Abdulai's arrest, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has said.

Mr Muntaka told Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, that the case was moved from the regional level to the national level. He said it came to his attention on September 7, when the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received a report, and he then asked for the investigation to be conducted nationally.

On the progress of the case, he said investigators have been able to get one of the young women involved, though he cautioned that he should not be releasing too much information.

“We’ve been able to get one of the ladies, maybe I shouldn’t be putting so much information out. So, what is happening is that this gentleman has been arrested, he’s going through the due process,” he said.

He added that investigators are looking at DNA evidence, including from semen. Under the law, however, they need a court order before collecting DNA samples.

Mr Muntaka stressed that the headmaster is presumed innocent until proven guilty and will have the chance to respond to the allegations as the investigation continues.
