Police arrest two in ¢100,000 online vehicle fraud investigation
The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals suspected of running an online vehicle sales scam that defrauded a buyer of over GH¢100,000.
The suspects, Chidubem Oba Precious, 31, and Ama Mankye, 28, were apprehended following an investigation into a complaint filed at the Kasoa District Police Command.
According to a police public affairs statement, the victim initiated the transaction after seeing a TikTok advertisement promoting a Jetour hybrid vehicle for US$8,800. The advertisement was linked to a company named “Shipper China Qinghai Hongmeng Auto Mobile Sale.”
The complainant made two separate bank transfers to accounts linked to the suspects: a first payment of GH¢46,895 on December 9, 2025, and a second payment of GH¢53,428 on December 18, 2025, totaling GH¢100,323. Following the transfers, the buyer received a bill of lading, which police investigators later verified as fraudulent.
On June 12, police tracked and arrested Chidubem Oba Precious at his residence in Adawukwa, a suburb of Bawjiase in the Central Region. A search of the premises uncovered a transaction receipt, as well as an ATM card and a SIM card registered under the name of Ama Mankye.
The recovered evidence led to the subsequent arrest of Mankye in Agbogba, Accra. Investigators established that Mankye allegedly opened the bank account to receive the funds on behalf of Precious in exchange for a GH¢1,000 payment.
The two suspects were arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on June 15. Precious was remanded into police custody, while Mankye was granted bail in the sum of GH¢70,000 with one surety required to justify the bond with landed property. Both suspects are scheduled to reappear in court on June 29.
A third suspect, identified as Theresa Ziam, remains at large.
The Central East Regional Police Command has advised members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar online vehicle fraud schemes to report the incidents to the nearest police station or directly to the Regional Command.
