Special Anti-Galamsey taskforce seizes four excavators in Bekwai raid

A Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force operating in Ahwiren, in the Bekwai Municipality, has confiscated four excavators during a coordinated raid on two illegal mining sites near the Methodist Primary School.
The operation, led by DSP Karim Mahama and ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil, followed community tip-offs about ongoing illegal mining activities in the area.
At the first site, officers seized two excavators without resistance.
However, at the second site, illegal miners sabotaged two machines before the team’s arrival, rendering them immobile.
All four excavators have since been transported to the Regional Police Training School in Patasi for safekeeping.
No arrests were made during the operation as the perpetrators fled before the task force arrived.
Authorities say investigations are underway to track down the operators of the seized equipment.
