Tricycle rider jailed for defilement

A 29-year-old tricycle rider, Naah Mashood, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison with hard labour for defiling a three-year old girl at Tiegber in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.

The Upper West Regional Police Command says Mashood was arrested on February 24, 2026 following a complaint by the victim’s mother.

According to the police, Mashood had been engaged by the child’s parent to transport her to and from school.

However, on February 23, 2026, he allegedly lured the child to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her inside his tricycle, popularly known as a Cambuu.

Following investigations, he was arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court before standing trial at the Wa High Court.

On October 30, 2026, Justice Osei-Wusu found him guilty of defilement and sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has commended the officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of the case.

The command has also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of their children.

Members of the public have been encouraged to report suspected cases of child abuse and defilement to the nearest police station or the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The Police say they remain committed to protecting children and ensuring perpetrators of sexual offences are brought to justice.
