The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, Rev. Martin Amenaki, has confirmed the arrest of a police officer and an Assistant Matron of Wovenu Senior High Technical School (SHTS)  in the Volta Region over the alleged diversion of food items meant for students under the government’s feeding programme.

The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

Speaking to Class 91.3 FM’s Volta Regional Correspondent, Rev. Amenaki disclosed that the arrest followed a tip-off from the Assembly Member for the Tadzewu Electoral Area, Mr. Patrick Meli Atipoe, who had received information that food items meant for students were being siphoned from the school. 

Community vigilantes reportedly monitored the situation before alerting the police.

According to the MCE, at about 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a saloon car was spotted at the school premises loading several food items.

The vigilantes quickly informed the police, who intercepted the vehicle as it attempted to leave the campus.

A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed bags of rice, cartons of mackerel, tomatoes, milk, gallons of cooking oil and other provisions believed to have been taken from the school’s stores.

Preliminary investigations identified the driver as a police officer who had reportedly closed from duty around 4:00 a.m.

The officer allegedly changed from his uniform into jeans upon his arrest, with his police uniform later found in the vehicle. He was said to be in the company of a woman identified as Perfect Foli, a sister of the Assistant Matron of the school.

 Further enquiries led officers to the Assistant Matron, Doris Foli, whose room search uncovered additional food items.

While she reportedly claimed to have purchased some of the items, she is said to have admitted that others belonged to the school feeding programme.

He described the involvement of the police officer as “deeply disturbing,” stressing that a person entrusted to uphold the law should not allow himself to be implicated in such conduct. He assured residents that the law would take its course without fear or favour.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities either to the police or directly to his office, assuring them that his administration remains committed to protecting public resources. He further warned that any school official found diverting food items meant for students in the municipality would be arrested and prosecuted, emphasizing that such acts would not be tolerated under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
