Birim North District Chief Executive (DCE) Antwi Hakeem Abdul has cut the sod for the construction of a modern six-unit classroom block, complete with an office, staff room, and store, at Amuana Praso R/C Basic School in the Birim North District.

The project, funded through the District Assembly’s Internal Generated Fund (IGF), aims to resolve critical infrastructure deficits and provide a safer, more conducive learning environment for pupils in the community.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Antwi Hakeem Abdul highlighted that the assembly prioritized projects based on direct community consultations. He explained that after discussions with local leaders, the assembly inspected the old basic school structure, deemed it severely dilapidated and unsafe, and authorised its demolition to make way for the new facility.

The DCE noted that the intervention was also inspired by the remarkable academic improvement among local students.

"The government tasked us to ensure development reaches every corner of the district. We listened to the leaders of Amuana Praso, inspected the weak school building, and demolished it to prevent any danger. Today, we are putting up a standard 6-unit classroom block. For the past 15 to 16 years, our children struggled to get top aggregate scores, but recently, students in this area scored between aggregate 6 and 12. This shows their dedication, and it gives us the joy and drive to provide the right infrastructure to support them," he said.

Abdul emphasised that sustaining such academic excellence requires collective effort, appealing to residents and stakeholders to meet their civic obligations so the assembly can continue executing crucial development projects.

Meanwhile, the contractor for the project, Mr Bismarck Asamoah, urged community members who will be hired on site to safeguard construction materials.

He cautioned against the theft or misuse of building supplies, reminding residents that the facility is being constructed for the benefit of their own children. Mr Asamoah assured the assembly and traditional leaders that the project will be delivered on schedule and according to specification, provided the community offers its full cooperation.
