The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) will on Thursday, 27 May 2026, receive a donation of 50 computers from the MP for Abetifi Constituency, Mr Bryan Acheampong, following a commitment he made during the Faculty of Business and Strategic Communication Public Lecture held at the University. 

The former Minister of Food and Agriculture pledged when he delivered a public lecture on the theme: “AI Disruptions and the Future of Work: Readiness of Our Youth,” where discussions focused on Artificial Intelligence, digital transformation, innovation, employability, and the preparedness of Ghanaian youth for the changing world of work. 

During the lecture, strong emphasis was placed on the responsibility of higher educational institutions to equip students with practical digital competencies, adaptive thinking skills, ethical leadership, creativity, and technological literacy to thrive in the AI era. 

The MP’s donation of 50 computers is therefore seen as a direct response to the conversations and concerns raised during the lecture regarding access to digital learning tools and the need to empower students for the future.

The donation is expected to strengthen students’ access to digital resources and support UniMAC’s strategic drive towards innovation, communication technology, AI readiness, and practical skills development within higher education. 

Speaking ahead of the presentation ceremony, the Rector of UniMAC-IJ, Professor Christiana Hammond, described the MP’s gesture as a major intervention that demonstrates confidence in Ghanaian youth and the transformative role of education. 

According to Professor Hammond, the donation represents more than the presentation of computers; it is a practical investment in the future of students and a demonstration of the importance of collaboration between government and academia in national development. 

“The future of work is increasingly digital, and institutions of higher learning must intentionally position students to succeed in this evolving environment. This support from the Honourable Minister will contribute significantly towards enhancing teaching, learning, innovation, and student preparedness for the digital economy,” the Rector stated in a release issued by UniMAC’s Public Affairs Directorate. 

University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) further indicated that the donation aligns with ongoing efforts to create a more digitally enabled learning environment capable of supporting communication education, media innovation, content creation, research, and emerging AI applications. 

The event is expected to attract government officials, university management, faculty members, students, media practitioners, and stakeholders within the education, communication, and technology sectors.
