Primetime Limited, organisers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has announced the postponement of the third quarter-final contest of the 2025 edition following a crowd disturbance at the University of Cape Coast on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
The contest, which was scheduled to feature Prempeh College, Adisadel College, and Mfantsipim School, was called off after an uncontrollable crowd forced its way into the auditorium despite measures put in place to regulate attendance.
In a statement issued on October 31, 2025, Primetime explained that although larger auditoriums were available on campus, the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium was chosen for its accessibility and suitability for stage setup.
Organisers said they had anticipated a large turnout and had made provisions, including outdoor screens, chairs, and police presence, to ensure order.
However, the statement noted that the overwhelming desire of fans to be inside the recording hall led to a breach that disrupted proceedings, prompting the decision to postpone the contest to prevent possible clashes among supporters.
Primetime expressed regret over the incident and apologised to the participating schools, fans, and stakeholders for the inconvenience caused.
“Calling off the contest was the safest decision under the circumstances,” the statement read.
“We place a premium on ensuring the protection of life and property and will continue to provide a safe environment for all participants.”
The organisers thanked the public for their understanding and assured that a new date for the contest will be announced soon.
