Kwahu East DCE distributes 1,000 desks to schools to address furniture shortage
The District Chief Executive for Kwahu East in the Eastern Region, Samuel Asamoah, has distributed 1,000 metal mono desks to schools across the district to help address the shortage of classroom furniture and improve teaching and learning conditions.
The desks were distributed to about 20 basic schools and eight Senior High and Technical Schools in the district.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Asamoah said education remains a priority for the Assembly and stressed that no child should be denied a conducive learning environment due to a lack of desks.
He said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector and improve academic performance in the district.
According to him, assessments conducted in schools revealed a significant furniture deficit that was affecting both students and teachers. He assured residents that the Assembly would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to address infrastructural and logistical challenges facing schools.
The Kwahu East District Director of Education, Emmanuel Kwame Somuah, described inadequate furniture as one of the major challenges confronting schools in the district.
He commended the District Chief Executive and the Assembly for the intervention, noting that the desks would ease pressure on beneficiary schools and improve the learning environment for students.
Mr. Somuah, however, appealed to government, corporate organisations, philanthropists and other stakeholders to support efforts to address the remaining furniture deficit in schools across the district.
He also urged school authorities and students to properly maintain the desks to ensure their long-term use.
