SSA-UDS calls off local strike, but continues national action
The Senior Staff Association of the University for Development Studies (SSA-UDS) has announced the immediate suspension of its local strike action.
This follows a meeting with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), University Management, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The decision comes after GTEC committed to addressing the concerns raised by SSA-UDS alongside relevant stakeholders to reach a satisfactory resolution.
A statement issued and signed by Zakaria Mohammed, Chairman of SSA-UDS, confirmed the suspension of the strike, expressing optimism about the way forward.
"The Executive Council has decided to call off the local strike after receiving assurances from GTEC to resolve our concerns to their logical conclusion," the statement noted.
Despite this local development, the national industrial strike declared on Monday, 16 September 2024, remains in full force.
The SSA-UDS has urged its members to remain united in support of the ongoing national action until a positive response is received from the National Executive Council of the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG).
"We deeply appreciate the solidarity and commitment of our members, which has been instrumental in our progress," Mohammed added, highlighting the collective effort of members during the strike.
SSA-UDS assured members that they will continue to provide updates on the situation as discussions with stakeholders evolve.
