SSA-UoG to embark on nationwide strike Sept. 16
The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared a nationwide strike.
The strike which is set to begin on Monday, 16 September 2024, is due to government's failure to address their long-standing demands for improved working conditions.
In a statement issued on Friday, 13 September 2024, and signed by the Association's National Chairman, George Ansong, the SSA-UoG expressed deep frustration with the government's inability to honour previous agreements, despite multiple protests and negotiations.
The Association stressed that after months of unresolved issues, it had no choice but to resort to a total strike.
Among the chief grievances is the government’s failure to implement new rates for Vehicle Maintenance and related allowances, which were previously agreed upon.
The Association also criticized the delay in releasing Tier Two pension deductions to Fund Managers, which have been withheld since January 2024.
Additionally, SSA-UoG raised concerns over the government’s refusal to recalculate interest on Tier Two pension funds accumulated between 2010 and 2016.
The SSA-UoG has directed all its member institutions to comply fully with the strike order, emphasising that the government's continued inaction has left university staff with no alternative but to take drastic measures.
